Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung held an event yesterday to introduce 16 young Taiwanese agricultural experts traveling to the Netherlands for a government-funded exchange program.
The Young Agricultural Ambassadors program, launched in 2017, promotes Taiwan-country exchanges, originally focused on New Southbound Policy countries. Over 150 ambassadors have participated since its inception, traveling to Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, and Thailand.
This year marks the program’s first expansion beyond the New Southbound Policy, with the Netherlands chosen for its floriculture industry and leadership in smart agriculture.
Taiwan and the Netherlands enjoy close agricultural ties, with regular working group meetings since 1993.
Matthijs van der Hoorn, deputy representative of the Netherlands Office Taipei, highlighted the strong relationship and emphasized the young delegates’ role in shaping future agricultural solutions.
This year’s delegation, consisting of professionals in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and more, will engage with Dutch counterparts in floriculture, controlled-environment agriculture, livestock farming, and fruit and vegetable production.
They will depart Taiwan on Sunday for an eight-day visit.
