Maputo, 03 Nov (AIM) – Mozambique’s Agriculture Ministry launched the 2026/27 Agricultural Campaign Plan on Monday, which is budgeted at $189.8 million. The plan aims to transform the agricultural sector through increased production, productivity, value chain integration, and producer competitiveness.
Funded by the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the plan focuses on several key components:
-
Emergency Response: Approximately $94.7 million will be allocated to assist producers affected by the El Niño phenomenon, providing agricultural kits, silos, irrigation kits, and animal feed supplements.
-
Development and Agribusiness Support: The remaining $95.1 million will invest in credit lines, institutional support, seeds, inputs, mechanization, irrigation, livestock, fisheries, forestry, and agricultural extension services.
The plan includes the distribution of 905 motor cultivators, 251 tractors, 2,075 tonnes of seeds, 3,532 irrigation systems, and 3,363 motor pumps and irrigation kits, benefiting farmers with different coverage capacities.
Minister Roberto Albino emphasized the urgency of implementation, stating, "Now we have to accelerate implementation... [as this] will help us fulfill our mandate. The plan represents an opportunity to boost production and productivity, stimulate agribusiness, and promote more resilient, competitive, and market-oriented agriculture."
This initiative underscores Mozambique's commitment to fostering a sustainable and prosperous agricultural sector.
