Agricultural output rises despite water cuts, reduced cultivated area
Iran's agricultural production reached 137 million tons in the past crop year, despite a 15 billion cubic-meter reduction in water allocated to the sector, according to Majid Anjafi, a deputy agriculture minister.
Though cultivated areas for vegetables, summer crops, and melons have declined, higher productivity and yields per hectare have contributed to increased overall output.
Anjafi highlighted the water shortfall faced by the sector, stating that only a limited amount of water was allocated as planned. He cautioned that without productivity improvements and farming practice changes, output could have decreased by 30 million tons.
He attributed the exceptional achievement of 137 million tons in total agricultural production to farmers' efforts and the sector's resilience.
