Agriculture Enters the Digital Era
The tax office is set to efficiently monitor every transaction of agricultural products with a significant step towards eliminating market distortions.
Digital Transformation Plan
According to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), transaction inspection will transition to a fully digital and analytical environment by the end of the year. This transformation will impact various agricultural products, from milk and meat to olive oil, honey, fruit, and vegetables, each gaining a digital identity.
The goal is to address practices that have distorted the market for years, including:
- Greek stamps on imported products
- Inaccurate production declarations
- Subsidy control issues
The tax administration will be able to track products at various stages of the supply chain, from production and initial sale to processing.
Key Initiatives
- Taxonomy Creation: AADE is developing a single taxonomy for agricultural products.
- Analytical Sales Documents: Standardized data will be included in each transaction, detailing product type, category, and quantity.
This change will establish a new database for agricultural production, enabling cross-referencing between declared quantities and actual transactions.
For example, an invoice will no longer report a general product category but will specify the exact type and quantity of milk sold, providing the tax administration with a more accurate picture.
Implementation Timeline
The new model will be introduced gradually, starting with milk and meat, and eventually expanding to all agricultural product categories, with a planned completion by the end of 2027.
