Arkansas Farmer Faces Tough Decisions After Variable Harvest

Nov 03, 2026

An eastern Arkansas farmer expresses concern over the variable harvest results this fall, citing challenging farm economics that leave him uncertain about the future. Brian Alumbaugh shares his experiences with Brownfield.

"The milling on the rice was off again. The cotton wasn’t bad. I’ve cut some of the best and worst soybeans ever this year," Alumbaugh remarks.

He finds the market dynamics for his crops this fall to be interesting.

"I have sold most of mine except for my rice and a little bit of corn. I don’t have my cotton in yet and I’ve sold most of my soybeans to just survive another year."

Alumbaugh anticipates that farmers will face difficult decisions this winter, given the escalating farm economics.
