Auburn Agriculture Welcomes STEM + Agricultural Sciences Complex

Auburn, AL (EETV) – Auburn has unveiled a new $224 million, 256,000-square-foot academic complex dedicated to STEM and agricultural science fields. Construction concluded in spring 2026, with the official grand opening in the fall of the same year.

The complex offers students and faculty ample space for various learning and research initiatives. A notable feature is the underground walkways and skybridges connecting the three distinct buildings, facilitating easy movement for the entire community.

Approximately 70% of the complex is allocated to research and teaching laboratories, accessible to all students and faculty for their projects. Among the highlights is the soil teaching laboratory on the ground floor, with direct access to planter boxes outside.

Steve Hague, head of the environmental science department, emphasizes the collaborative nature of the complex, enabling different departments to work together seamlessly. He cites the planter boxes, tended by the horticulture department, as a testament to this teamwork.

Hague compares the new complex to the previous Funchess Hall, which housed agricultural sciences before its replacement. "We have a nicer, cleaner space that’s more functional... and it represents Auburn," he noted.

The new complex also supersedes Parker Hall, once home to the College of Science and Mathematics. Although Parker Hall had classrooms and laboratories, its age (built in 1963) limited its functionality. The new complex addresses these deficiencies by providing modern spaces for students and faculty and designing them with future renovations in mind, keeping pace with Auburn researchers' evolving needs.
