Building Agriculture’s High-Tech Workforce
Published Yesterday
A program from AgCentric is working to prepare students for careers in agricultural robotics, automation, and other emerging technologies. Funding comes from a National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education grant.
“We have known for a number of years shortages in the area of agricultural technology, robotics, automation,” said Keith Olander, executive director, AgCentric. “We don’t have technicians readily available in a lot of our dealerships or other areas to take care of the demand that’s out there.”
The program provides professional development for secondary teachers while coordinating with post-secondary programs. Forty percent of the educators trained are from Minnesota, with the remaining participants coming from 32 states.
