MOULTRIE, Ga. — When you spot the "Georgia Grown" logo on a product at the grocery store or farmers' market, it's more than just a label. It signifies that your purchase directly supports local farmers, food makers, and their communities, fostering a vital part of Georgia's economy.
Georgia Grown is the official marketing and economic development program of the Georgia Department of Agriculture, aimed at promoting and supporting the state's agribusinesses.
Connecting Shoppers to Local Farmers
"Georgia Grown’s mission is to help grow local agribusiness," explains Lizzy Parks from the Georgia Department of Agriculture. "Purchasing Georgia Grown supports Georgia farmers, small businesses, and local communities while providing consumers with fresh, high-quality products."
The program acts as a vital link between producers, retailers, and consumers, empowering small family farms, regional food companies, and larger agribusinesses. They gain access to marketing support, networking opportunities, and the recognizable Georgia Grown brand, enhancing their visibility on store shelves.
Supporting a Sustainable Future
For shoppers, choosing Georgia Grown products means more than just buying fresh, local food. It keeps dollars circulating within the state's economy, preserving farmland and farm jobs, and fostering the next generation of Georgia producers.
"As humans, one of the easiest ways we connect is through food," Parks notes. "If we can connect consumers to the people behind their food, then we can help strengthen the future of Georgia agribusinesses."
This connection between everyday meals and the farm is also at the core of partner organizations like Flint River Fresh, which uses hands-on education to demonstrate the journey of food from seed to plate.
