After Hurricanes Lala, Lowell, and Moke severely impacted Hawai‘i, an emergency farmer relief grant program has been implemented in response to these storms. The program aims to assist farmers and ranchers by providing funding for infrastructure repair, equipment replacement, and getting back to agricultural production.
The Governor’s Office, Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity, and Department of Accounting and General Services are collaborating on this initiative. The storms, occurring from mid-August to early September, affected communities across multiple islands, including Kaua‘i and Hawai‘i Island.
"The trio of storms did severe damage... destroying homes, wiping out major roads... devastating the places where we bury and honor our loved ones," stated Governor Josh Green. “Relief for those communities across Hawai‘i is critical.”
Eligible applicants from farms, orchards, ranches, and similar operations can receive up to $1,500 through the online application portal, which accepts submissions until January 29, 2027.
"These funds will allow the people who do the hard work of producing food for the people of Hawai‘i to get back on their feet... into the fields and pastures for that essential work," said Sharon Hurd, chair of the Board of Agriculture and Biosecurity.
Each eligible applicant can receive a maximum of one check of $1,500 per year. To be considered eligible, applicants must provide an invoice and a W-9, Schedule C, or Schedule F for tax returns as proof of their farming or ranching status.
