Playboy Relocates Global HQ to Miami Beach

Playboy is moving its global headquarters from Los Angeles to Miami Beach, Florida, as announced on August 13. This strategic shift is part of the brand's plan to revitalize and reinvent itself, aligning with the vibrant and business-friendly city of Miami Beach.

A New Chapter for Playboy

In a press release, Ben Kohn, CEO of Playboy, Inc., expressed enthusiasm about the new location:

Miami Beach is among the most dynamic and culturally influential cities in the country, making it the ideal home for Playboy's next chapter.

Playboy aims to reclaim its position as a leading global lifestyle and media brand, creating world-class content and experiences. The company sees Miami Beach as the perfect environment to foster this ambition.

A Brief History of Playboy

Playboy, founded in Chicago in 1953 by entrepreneur Hugh Hefner, started as a magazine focused on revealing photographs and articles of women. Over time, it evolved into a global media and entertainment empire, with Playboy clubs, TV specials, and celebrity covers. At its peak in 1971, the magazine had a circulation of seven million, according to the New York Times.

Hefner's legacy is complex, with the brand drawing criticism for its treatment of women and promoting a misogynistic culture. In response to 2022 documentary Hefner & Me, Playboy issued a statement acknowledging that "today's Playboy is not Hefner's Playboy" and expressing support for women who shared their experiences of alleged mistreatment.

The New HQ and Content Studio

The new Playboy Global Headquarters will be located at Rivani Miami Beach, a development at 1691 Michigan Ave. This move will also establish a content studio to support the brand's growing digital presence and diverse media portfolio.
