ATLANTA — State Sen. Tyler Harper, R-Ocilla, has jumped into the race for Georgia agriculture commissioner, a submit incumbent Commissioner Gary Black is vacating to run for the U.S. Senate.

Harper, a seventh-period farmer and south Georgia native, has served Inside the Senate since 2013. He is chairman of the Senate Pure Assets and the Environment Committee and vice chairman of The genperiodl public Safety Committee.

“I’ve a deep, private appreciation and understanding of the challenges our growers face Daily,” Harper said. “For me, being a farmer is Greater than Solely a job — it’s A life-type. As agriculture commissioner, I am going to use my background, expertise, and doc of outcomes to wrestle for our farmers, The client, our conservative values and Our lifetype right here in Georgia.”

He represents Georgia’s Seventh Senate District, a largely rural space that stretches by way of all or parts of 10 counties in south Georgia.

Black, a Republican elected agriculture commissioner in 2010, entered the 2022 Senate contest earlier this month. He is difficult Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., who gained Definitely one of Georgia’s two U.S. seats final January in a runoff.
