THOMASVILLE — Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson joined local business leaders at the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce on Friday morning to share his vision for growing Georgia's agricultural industry by 10% if elected.
Introducted by Thomas County Sheriff Tim Watkins, Jackson was described as a man who embodies the American dream. As a former foster child in metro Atlanta, he rose to become a millionaire CEO and businessman.
"He’s not running for governor for the money or the fame or fortune," Watkins emphasized. "He truly cares about the citizens of Georgia."
This was Jackson's fourth visit to Thomasville, highlighting the importance of rural Georgia and its primary industry: agriculture.
Jackson's Plan for Agriculture
Jackson proposed exposing young people to farming and skilled trades while they are still in high school, emphasizing that these careers are honorable and do not necessarily require a four-year degree. He aims to implement this initiative across the state.
"A lot of kids don’t know what it’s like," he noted.
Jackson's long-term goal is to expand Georgia's agricultural industry, providing ample career opportunities for its youth without requiring advanced degrees.
"I see Georgia as a business," Jackson stated, "and one of the things I’ve learned through running our business is if I focus on that large picture, great things happen."
