Michael Gates Talks California Agriculture and Public Safety (October 2, 2026)
California Attorney General candidate Michael Gates joined “The Ag Meter” Nick Papagni during a visit to Fresno, discussing California agriculture, public safety, labor issues, constitutional rights, and his campaign for attorney general.
Gates’ Connections to the Central Valley
Gates, a Republican candidate, shared his longstanding ties to the region, despite being from Southern California. He credited his previous work as a private attorney representing trucking companies with bringing him frequently to the area.
“I love the Central Valley,” Gates declared, highlighting agriculture, oil, and the region’s history.
Restoring Law and Order
A significant focus of the interview was public safety. Gates criticized incumbent Attorney General Rob Bonta, arguing for stronger law enforcement and greater accountability. He pledged to make public safety and support for law enforcement major priorities if elected.
Gates connected these issues to California’s agricultural and business communities, suggesting that stability and enforcement would benefit farmers, agricultural workers, retailers, and other businesses.
Encouraging Political Participation
For farmers and agricultural workers, Gates conveyed a message of political engagement, urging them to believe in change through new leadership in Sacramento:
“California está rota.” La comunidad latina puede rescatar California.
He encouraged all voters to participate in the upcoming election.
Constitutional Rights and the Second Amendment
Gates expressed strong support for constitutional rights, particularly the First and Second Amendments. He pledged to notify all 58 California sheriffs concerning concealed-carry permits, stating that those who do not issue permits within 90 days would be violating the Second Amendment.
Campaign Focus
Gates described his campaign as focusing on issues appealing across the political spectrum: reducing crime, fighting corruption, protecting constitutional rights, and supporting law enforcement. He also promised an aggressive approach to government fraud, waste, and abuse.
