RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Adapting to change quickly and knowing what your future holds is challenging, especially in agriculture. As someone who grew up on a fifth-generation farm, taking over the farm has always been a goal, but recent doubts have emerged.

Land use, affordability, and healthcare are significant factors in a young person's decision to enter or stay in agriculture. With nearly 15,000 farms lost in the United States each year, ensuring a sustainable future for farming requires collective action.

Voting: A Powerful Tool

Every election matters, and my right to vote allows me to advocate for my vision of the future. I think about the financial aspects of taking over the family farm, and the numbers can be daunting.

Data centers, transmission projects, and other utilities are expanding in Wisconsin, creating a delicate balance between progress and preservation. It's crucial to support policies that benefit agriculture while protecting farmland.

The Role of Policymakers

We need policymakers who grasp the intricacies of agriculture. They should facilitate industry evolution while safeguarding prime farmland, as once lost, it cannot be easily regained.

Beyond land access, healthcare and insurance affordability are essential but often overlooked aspects of farming.
