WSU and USDA Celebrate New Agricultural Research Building Opening in Pullman
Washington State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture celebrated the opening of the new USDA Plant Bioscience Research Building on the WSU Pullman campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning. The 100,000-square-foot facility will house federal and WSU researchers studying wheat, potatoes, soil science, weed control, and other agricultural topics. The new laboratories will enable scientists to develop improved crop varieties, study herbicide-resistant weeds, and find ways to reduce food waste through better potato storage.
Planning for the new building has been ongoing since the early 2000s, and it replaces Johnson Hall, which was demolished in 2022 and 2023.
The new building continues an agricultural research partnership between WSU and the USDA that dates back to 1931.
